Educational Focus: Children attend Independence Public Schools. Drumm staff regularly consult with teachers and counselors to monitor each student's progress. Additionally, support systems such as supervised study hours, remedial reading programs, daily tutoring with certified teachers, reference materials and computers are available on-the Drumm campus. All students work with staff to set long-term educational goals with emphasis on post-secondary education or training. Scholarship assistance is available for college-bound students.

Recreational Opportunities: The Drumm Farm campus offers a wonderful setting for safe, outdoor and indoor, recreational fun for children when they are not in school or participating in community activities. The campus is well suited for bike riding, rollerblading, skateboarding, basketball, volleyball, sledding and other activities in the gymnasium or on the spacious campus. During the summer, the Drumm children enjoy overnight YMCA camps, day trips and at least one extended vacation trip before school begins again in the fall.

Family Involvement: Drumm strongly supports continuing family relationships whenever possible. We work closely with Children's Division and Family Court caseworkers to facililate approved family visits. When appropriate, children may visit with family on weekends or during holidays. Host families will often sponsor students without available family resources.

Counseling: Although we are not a treatment facility, the children at Drumm Farm receive weekly counseling to deal with personal and family issues. Many children participate in family and group counseling on campus, as well as participate in outside therapeutic programs, such as equine therapy and other alternative methods.

Commitment: Our final service is a promise we make to each child who arrives on our campus. “We’ll be your family for as long as it takes”. Our ultimate hope if for each child to be reunified with their biological parents or placed with a close family member. However, when this is not possible, Drumm Farm stands by their promise. Graduating high school students are able to stay in apartments on Drumm Farm’s campus while attending further schooling or working in the local communit.
